    From the Principal

    Dear Parents/Carers and Students,

Call for Expressions of Interest – College Advisory Council

On behalf of the Council Chair, I am calling members of our College Community for Expressions of Interest in joining our College Advisory Council. If you are interested in becoming a Council member, please complete the form via this link CAC Expression of Interest Form. If you would like to speak further about this opportunity, I would encourage you to contact principal@ipc.qld.edu.au

Each school within EREA has a College Advisory Council that works with the College Leadership Team in supporting the direction and growth of the College. Members typically serve a 3-year term, with meetings held approximately 9 times throughout the year. As a general rule, the make-up of the Advisory Council is based on skills and experience, with the aim being that we look to recruit members with varied experiences that allow the Council to best support the leadership of the College.

    Science Building

The rejuvenation of our old science block is almost complete as our new STEM precinct starts to really take shape. We will have classes moving in from the Wednesday of week 1 next term. I am looking forward to seeing the staff and students in this space as we ensure that our boys at Iggy Park have access to some of the best learning environments in North Queensland. I have included a few photos below.

    Confraternity

I am looking forward to travelling to Rockhampton during the holidays to support our Confraternity Shield team as they prepare to defend the title that they won in 2024. The team has been working extremely hard since late last year, and I know that both the team and the coaches have high expectations of the week ahead. All matches are livestreamed, and I would encourage you to keep an eye out on the College Facebook page for more information as the week progresses.

I would like to mention the staff who are travelling with the team and giving up a week of their holidays to do so. Like all staff who contribute to the co-curricular offerings that we have at the College, these staff volunteer their time and do so to provide meaningful opportunities for our boys. We wish the players and the staff all the best for the week ahead, and safe travels.

    Ski Trip

Another group that will be travelling this holidays is our ski trip who will be enjoying the fresh mountain air of New Zealand. A group of 30 students are making the trip and I wish them all the best and safe travels for this adventure.

    Term-time student attendance

Sadly, we have had a number of families withdrawing their sons over the last few weeks to take family holidays during term time. I would encourage all families not to do this as it places your son at a disadvantage educationally due to the time missed from school, but can also increase workload for our staff as they look to set alternate assessments, and change deadlines in an attempt to ensure the assessment is complete in time for reporting. Your consideration of this is appreciated.

    Reports

And finally, with the semester drawing to an end our staff have been busy with assessment and reporting. Our reports will be sent home for students from 7-10 early next term, and this will be followed by our second Parent Teacher evening on the 23rd July for all students. Please ensure that you book your interview times early in term 3 so that you can meet with your son’s teacher and discuss areas for improvement and areas that are going well, as we then prepare for the second half of the year.

Take care over the holiday period, and I look forward to seeing you in term 3.

    End of Semester Reflection

As this semester draws to a close this is an opportune time to reflect on progress so far.  In the next few weeks, as time permits, sitting down and talking with your son about their results so far and setting goals for next semester will be beneficial. For Year 11 students Term 3 is the final stretch for Year 11 work, they will transition to Year 12 work early in Term 4.  For our Year 12 General students this is a really important time period which culminates in the Mock Exams at the end of Term 3 which is significant for preparation for the External Exams.  For our Pathway students in Year 12 this next term presents an important time to complete all competencies and outstanding work. I wish both students and families the best for the holiday period.

    Identity and Mission

    Dear Parents and Carers,

As we finish off Term 2, planning is well under way for numerous events to raise Social Justice awareness in the College. This notion is becoming ever more pertinent in today’s society, when we see all around us injustices of every kind occurring. The aim of Term 3, under the Touchstone banner of ‘Justice and Solidarity,’ is to advocate and immerse ourselves in social justice in and around our great community.

    Year 8 and 10 Retreats

The recent retreats for our Year 8 and 10 students offered powerful opportunities to explore key themes vital to their personal growth, all aligned with our College's values, touchstones and PACA / Pastoral Care Program. These retreats were crafted to nurture a stronger sense of self and community among our young men.

    Year 8 – “Speaking Truth”

Held in the IPC Hall, the Year 8 retreat emphasized unity and the strength found in teamwork. Facilitated by the Passionist Youth Team, with the support of IPC staff, students engaged in meaningful activities that fostered connection, understanding, and resilience. This retreat allowed Year 8 students to reflect on how they can support one another and build a strong, inclusive community. Please see photos below, from our Year 8 Retreat.

Year 10 – “Masks: Pathways to Authenticity”

For Year 10, the theme revolved around authenticity, exploring the metaphor of “masks” to uncover the genuine self beneath. Again, these were facilitated by the Passionist Youth Retreat Team from Brisbane, and this retreat invited students to reflect on societal expectations and how they can courageously pursue a life true to their values. It was a powerful experience that encouraged them to let go of facades and grow into authentic young men.

These retreats play an essential role in helping students at our College navigate the complex journey of adolescence. They provide a safe space for young men to reflect, build meaningful relationships, and gain clarity on their values and purpose, fostering a path toward becoming good, responsible men.

I'd like to thank Mr Ty Mills for his hard work and organization behind the scenes to bring these Retreats to life. In addition to this, his efforts in gathering donations for our winter appeal. Thanks again to Mr Ty Mills for driving these great initiatives within our College to directly help the wider Townsville community.

Have a great holiday break and I look forward to updating you next term on everything Identity & Mission at the College.

    In faith and service,

Screen Time and the Holidays – Finding Balance

As holidays approach, it's important to help our young men at Ignatius Park College strike a healthy balance with screen time. While devices can be a great source of entertainment and connection, excessive use can impact sleep, mental health, and relationships. These breaks are a chance for boys to reconnect with family, spend time outdoors, and enjoy activities that build resilience, creativity, and well-being.

We encourage parents to set reasonable screen boundaries—such as device-free mealtimes, tech-free bedrooms, and agreed-upon daily limits. Try planning some shared experiences, whether it’s a family outing, helping with a project, or just a good old-fashioned board game. Open conversations about online safety and digital habits are also valuable during these less structured weeks.

Let’s work together to ensure the holidays are a time for rest, real connection, and recharging—not just devices, but our sons too.

For a little more information, take a look at this article.

Returning to School Ready and Representing with Pride

As we return from the mid-year holidays, we encourage all families to support their sons in starting Term 3 with focus, pride, and purpose. A settled and prepared return sets the tone for the term ahead, and it begins at home. Ensuring your son is well-rested, has completed any outstanding tasks, and returns with the correct uniform and appearance is essential.

At Ignatius Park College, our standards around appearance reflect our values of integrity, pride and commitment. Haircuts must meet College expectations, jewellery must be removed, and uniforms should be worn correctly and with pride. As I have mentioned many times previously, these standards are not only about presentation, but about building habits of personal responsibility and respect for our shared community.

We thank our parents and carers for your ongoing support as we work together to maintain the high expectations that make Ignatius Park College a place of excellence for all young men.

    Enjoy your break.

    IGNATIUS PARK COLLEGE RUGBY LEAGUE
BLOCK SPORT TRIUMPH: IPC vs. Kirwan SHS – Year 7 Rugby League

In a thrilling encounter reminiscent of Game 2 of the 2025 State of Origin, our IPC Year 7 Rugby League team showed grit and resilience to secure a hard-fought 26–24 victory over arch-rivals Kirwan SHS in the Block Sport final.

The match began with IPC in full control, powering to a 22–0 lead off the back of tough carries from Tequiri that resulted in two early tries. Viliami followed with a barnstorming effort, and the ever-reliable Jax added another before the break.

But just like the Maroons in Origin, the Iggy boys found themselves under pressure in the second half. Kirwan stormed back with four unanswered tries, swinging the momentum. However, IPC steadied, and Jax sealed the win with a clutch finish in the corner. As in the Origin decider, it came down to conversions—and the boot proved decisive. IPC’s accuracy with goalkicking proved the difference.

    COACH’S CORNER
"The boys displayed immense character and determination. Drawing parallels with the State of Origin, it’s clear our team has the grit and resilience to face any challenge." – Mr Oral Power

"This victory is just the beginning of their promising journey in the Blue and White." – Mr Gian Guerra

    A PROMISING START
This match marks a major milestone in the Year 7 team's journey, revealing their talent and setting a strong foundation for years of rugby league success in the Blue and White.

    Well done, gents.

Students on School Grounds Outside School Hours

Ignatius Park College has an enviable co-curricular program that operates outside school hours for a number of activities. All these activities are supervised by College staff and operate with parent and/or College permission.

For students arriving at school before the school day begins and remaining behind after the school day concludes, supervision is provided by school staff from 8.10am until the start of homeroom at 8.30am and after the school day concludes at 3.00pm until 3.20pm. School bells ring at 8.10am and 3.20pm to indicate the beginning and end of this supervision.

Parents are reminded that unless students are taking part in supervised outside school activities, they will not be supervised by school staff except during the period from 8.10 am and until 3.20pm. Parents should ensure that suitable arrangements are in place to ensure the supervision of their students outside these times. While school gates will be open before and after these times, this is to provide access to staff and for students attending these supervised activities.
